Payette County Paramedics is an ambulance district that currently provides 911 emergency services, Stand-by events and Critical Care inter-facility transports. We currently have 1 ambulance station located in Fruitland that is staffed 24/7 with 2 crews of professionally trained Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics ready to serve in a moments notice. Payette County Paramedics provide Advanced Emergency care to the citizens of Payette County and surrounding areas. Each ambulance is equipped to provide the highest level of pre-hospital and interfacility transport capability possible. We carry mechanical ventilators, IV pumps, cardiac monitors with 12-lead EKG, pacemaker and defibrillator functions as well as a full array of medications to handle any emergency. We also have specially designed and stocked kits just for our pediatric patients.

Job Description

The goal of the Payette County Paramedics Reserve Program is to produce an emergency medical provider who is capable of safely, effectively and skillfully providing pre-hospital care to patients, both by working as a team and independently. The objectives are as follows:

To provide a highly trained and positively motivated field provider capable of meeting and exceeding the performances standards required by Payette County Paramedics.

To provide equitable and standardized training of all newly hired field providers and to provide remedial training in areas where deficiencies are identified.

To build on the foundation of knowledge and skills learned in initial training/clinical experience and create an environment where the Reserve may develop new skills and increase proficiency.

To maintain and improve the quality of Payette County Paramedics.

To utilize and evaluation system that is valid, fair and objective.
The 2 phases of training for Payette County Reserves include:

The focus during phase one and phase two is on Operations, Clinical Medicine, Treatment Standards and Standing Written Orders.

Reserves will be allowed to volunteer for 24 hours shifts as a “third” on an ambulance with the on duty crew(s).

The Reserve may function at their specific level of training and/or certification at the discretion of the on duty crews. They may also be the lead provider and write charts for calls.

During phrase three, reserve employees will be able to work as a “second” on an ambulance with the on duty crew(s) and receive compensation for the hours they have worked.

The FTO(s) assigned to the PCP Reserve Program, any specifically assigned mentor and the Reserve will meet to discuss the Reserve’s overall performance, as well as their readiness to transition to PRN status with Payette County Paramedics.

What happens when I call 911?When you call 911 for a medical emergency you will be routed to the Payette County Emergency Dispatch Line. The 911 operator will ask you "What is your emergency?" You should tell the 911 operator the exact state of your emergency so they can dispatch the required services, Police, Fire, EMS etc.

What's the difference between an EMT, AEMT and Paramedic?"EMT - is trained in Basic Life support (BLS) such as CPR, oxygen administration, clearing airway obstructions, spinal immobilization, as well as bleeding control. AEMT - is trained in Intermediate Life Support (ILS) in which they can perform all BLS skills, start intravenous lines, administer medications within their protocols, and place advanced airways. Paramedics -can perform both BLS and ILS skills plus conduct approximatly 1400 hrs of study and hands on clinicals. Paramedics are trained to provide life saving interventions with dozens of medications, cardiac monitoring (including 12 lead acquisition and interpretation), advanced airways , advanced trauma care, and stabilization of the critically ill.

Do Payette County Paramedics Volunteer?Payette County Paramedics do not volunteer and are paid for the hours that they work. Payette county Paramedic Reserves are volunteers. They ride as a 3rd crew member on the ambulance to gain the knowledge, training and expertise needed to become a paid employee in EMS. You can recognize theses individuals by their blue duty shirts!
